Signs That You Need New Windows

Windows provide many benefits, including keeping your home comfortable, providing natural light, and helping you save on your energy bills. It follows that your windows should be in their best condition. However, continued exposure to the elements will eventually take its toll. Aside from obvious visual cues like rot or physical damage, Renewal by Andersen® of Central Illinois shares other signs that may indicate a need to buy replacement windows. These include

Drafts Around the Windows

Drafts indicate a leak in or around the windows, typically caused by gaps between the sash and frame, worn weatherstripping, or broken glazing seals. Strong drafts indicate more severe leaks, which leads to heat loss that makes your windows less efficient. Minor issues like weatherstripping can be fixed, but structural issues like gaps – which means the sashes aren’t sitting flush with the frame – will require replacement.

If the frames are in good condition, you can opt for an insert window replacement, which only replaces the sashes. Not only does it cost less and can be installed faster, but we can build new sashes that will sit flush with the frames and form a perfect seal. Or you can consider taking this opportunity to replace the windows with a different style, such as a bay window.

Condensation on the Window Glass

Condensation forming on different spots can mean different things, but they all boil down to your windows not forming a good seal. Unlike drafts, condensation forms because of smaller leaks, as on small window cracks, or if the seal around the glazing has deteriorated. The latter is a much bigger problem, not just because it indicates poor manufacturing, but if you had paid for insulating gas fills, it may already have dissipated into the air. But don’t worry; it’s neither toxic nor malodorous.

Your Windows are Difficult to Open or Close

If you’ve ever had a hard time opening and closing your windows, the sashes may have been warped due to exposure to temperature changes. While sanding or planing the sashes provide temporary relief, window replacement is a long-term solution. With our exclusive Fibrex® material frames and sashes, you can expect smooth operation from your windows during its life span, thanks to its better structural rigidity and resistance to extreme temperatures.

"I would recommend RBA of Central Illinois for QUALITY windows and doors. Compared to our old cheap, thin vinyl windows, Andersen blows them away. You can easily tell by how well the sliding doors fit and close, and how heavy duty they are. We also cannot hear the wind rushing through the house in inclement weather anymore! And the black window frames we went with are amazing to look at. Aaron, Al, Darrell, and Cory all were professional and went all out to finish the job, given the weather they had to deal with. I would definitely recommend. They were also on top of communicating with me given the weather delays, and what I could expect for them coming out. Five stars!"
