Here’s What to Look For in Your New Patio Door

Patio doors are great additions to any home – be it a classical craftsman house or a minimalist, ultra-modern home. When it’s time to replace them, though, there’s more to consider for your new hardware apart from just appearance.

In this post, Renewal by Andersen® of Central Illinois shares what to look for in your new patio door.

The Door and Home Architectural Style

Always keep with the architectural style of your home when replacing any door – whether they are entry doors or patio doors. The fact that the door is a major focal point in both the interior and exterior space just reinforces how important it is for the new hardware to match or compliment the looks of your house.

As a general rule, the swing-out French patio doors are the best choice for more classic home designs as they have more intricate patterns on the glass. More often than not, they also have fancy hardware such as brass door knobs, which would complement the equally extravagant classic house.

For contemporary homes, sliding doors are the better choice. They have minimalist and straightforward looks, which match the overall design of these homes.

Wall and Floor Space

The wall and floor space of your rooms are also important details to keep in mind. Swing-out patio doors need space to open, so they are best for rooms with larger floor spaces. On the flip side, you can install sliding patio doors in smaller rooms, but they require ample wall space to accommodate the sliding mechanism.

Glass

Glass is another important factor when choosing new or replacement patio doors. Both French and sliding patios let in more light than the standard door, which means it can get very hot in your room if the glass is inadequate.

At Renewal by Andersen® of Central Illinois, we use High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass for all of our patio doors. These are more energy-efficient than your standard double-pane glass and will reduce UV light intrusion while still allowing your new doors to welcome daylight into your rooms.

Whether you’re in need of a storm door or a new patio door system, we are the company to turn to for hiqh-quality hardware and excellent workmanship. Call us today at (866) 693-6707 to learn more about our services. We install patio doors throughout Champaign and Peoria, IL.

Reviews

"I would recommend RBA of Central Illinois for QUALITY windows and doors. Compared to our old cheap, thin vinyl windows, Andersen blows them away. You can easily tell by how well the sliding doors fit and close, and how heavy duty they are. We also cannot hear the wind rushing through the house in inclement weather anymore! And the black window frames we went with are amazing to look at. Aaron, Al, Darrell, and Cory all were professional and went all out to finish the job, given the weather they had to deal with. I would definitely recommend. They were also on top of communicating with me given the weather delays, and what I could expect for them coming out. Five stars!"
