What You Need To Know About Storm Doors

When bad weather comes, make sure your home is protected from the elements. One way to do this is by installing a storm door to protect your entry and patio doors.

What exactly are storm doors? Renewal by Andersen® of Central Illinois explains more today:

What Are Storm Doors?

This is a door usually installed in front of an exterior access door to improve its function and protection. Storm doors have interchangeable window screen and glass panels that provide visibility and prevent insects from entering your home. There are three different types of storm doors:

  • Full View –  A full view storm door features a full-length glass panel that needs to be changed out if you prefer having a screen surface. The panel of glass or screen can then be stored for future use.

  • Ventilating – These storm doors have two glass panels and one to two screen panels in the door all at the same time. The glass panel can be moved up or down to reveal the screen. This is a convenient feature if you want cross-ventilation in your home without having to remove and replace the current panel.

  • Roll Screen – This new hybrid of storm doors combines the best features of the two standard types. Its screen panel is connected to the top of the door, and when not in use, it automatically rolls up. This creates a full-view door look when the screen isn’t used and a ventilating door feature when it is.

What Are Their Benefits?

Storm doors provide numerous benefits. For one, it increases your home’s security by adding a barrier between the outdoors and your belongings. It also protects your entry doors from the elements and various windblown debris, improving its service life and reducing maintenance costs.
