Casement windows are beautiful and energy-efficient windows. They can also be very difficult to keep clean. Replacement window installation company Renewal by Andersen® of Central Illinois shares an overview of how easy it is to clean Renewal by Andersen casement windows.
The Problem With Traditional Casement Windows
Cleaning traditional casement windows can be difficult, especially when you need to clean it from the upper floors. The problem lies in the hinged design: it’s easy to clean the interior side of the sash, but the exterior side, not so much, as the hinges are in the way. Some homeowners risk their safety by cleaning the windows from the outside. Grilles are another problem because of tight spots that retain dirt.
Cleaning the Window Exterior
Renewal by Andersen replacement windows are widely known for being easy to clean and maintain, among their other features. Thanks to the Fibrex® material frames and sashes, and the window coatings that prevent water spotting, it takes little effort to keep our replacement windows clean. Wash the exterior with a garden hose to remove most of the dirt and grime. For stubborn stains, use a window scrubber and dish detergent mixed with water. Use a squeegee to remove excess water, then dry with a clean cloth.
Cleaning from the Indoors
To clean your windows from the indoors, prepare the work area by clearing the area around the windows first. Cover the floor with plastic or tarp to avoid getting them wet. Prepare the sashes for cleaning by unclipping the insect screen and the removable grilles. Lift the lock lever to disengage the multi-point latch and release the sash.
This is where Renewal by Andersen casement windows differ from the rest. When you crank the window open, the four-arm operator pulls the sash towards the center, leaving a gap where the hinges normally would be. This means you can actually forego cleaning the casement window from outside. Start by rinsing the sashes using a clean wet rag, use the window scrubber and sudsy water to remove dirt at the corners, then use the squeegee and dry cloth to finish it.
When you have Renewal by Andersen replacement windows throughout your home, cleaning them will only take two or three hours, leaving you plenty of spare time to spend with your family.
